Solomon Island Dive Expeditions (SIDE) is pleased to announce the introduction of a brand new liveaboard vessel to Solomon Islands. Taka will replace our current vessel effective February 1 for all dive charters.
Solomon Islands is an exotic wonderland of varied landscapes, rich in both cultural and marine diversity. Virtually untouched by development and tourism, the Solomons offer visitors a feast of unique experiences and adventures. Located just under 1900 kilometers north-east of Australia, Solomon Islands were formed by a series of earthquakes and volcanic activity. Of the 922 islands, 350 are uninhabited and are truly unexplored. Throughout WWII, the Solomons were a strategic base and the site of intense naval battles. Now, hundreds of ships and aircraft litter the ocean floor, providing divers with some of the best wreck diving in the world. The marine diversity is exceptionally high and marine habitats are in excellent condition. Divers enjoy visibility of 40m or 100’+ on a regular basis.
Guests on board the Taka are offered the choice of four room classes – in twin/double or quad configuration. Upper deck rooms have ensuite bathrooms while lower deck rooms have shared facilities. All rooms are fully air-conditioned and have ample storage space for personal gear. A large saloon provides a great space for relaxing and dining and outdoor spaces include the large covered sun deck and a huge observation deck fitted with lounging chairs and hammocks. Prices for a 7 night expedition start from $2772 USD.
Taka has an extensive open dive deck with plenty of room for divers and photographers. The majority of the dives are done directly off the deck rather than off skiffs meaning more dives and longer dives are offered. Nitrox is available for all divers. Rebreathers are welcome on board as are solo divers.
