Munda to Honiara - July 7 to July 14, 2015
What a great trip! We had a surprise bit of weather come in last week and as a result the vessel ended up travelling to Munda to find safe harbour. Our choices were to call our clients to cancel this trip .... or get them all booked onto flights from Honiara to Munda and come up with a brand new itinerary and have an adventure. We are so thankful we had some adventurous clients who were willing to join us!
We worked with our sister company Dive Munda and partnered with Agnes Lodge to start off a week of fabulous and fun diving. The diving is off the hook! Munda favourites like Top Shelf and Shark Point were starters ... Fantastic stories were told about the sharks and pelagic life!
We departed Munda and headed north east to Wickham Harbour, where we dove the unusual wreck of the Taiyo. This wreck sits completely upright on the reef in the water around Hele Bar at about 40m. It is completely mesmerizing to see her! We continued to dive WWII wrecks in Wickham harbor before heading over the Marovo Lagoon.
Kicha Island proved, yet again, to be a guest favourite with schools and schools of reef fish, sharks, turtles and bump head parrotfish! Beautiful coral gardens, caverns and caves were the order of the day around Mbulo Island.
Onwards to the Russell Islands and Mirror Pond did not disappoint with jacks and cudas coming around for a visit. Lunch at the beach and dives to impress set the stage for a Solo Diver Course on board Solomon Star. Thanks Brian for making this work for us! We ended off the trip with dives at White Beach and a village visit to remember.
Thanks to all guests making this trip so much fun and very memorable indeed!
